VATICAN MUSEUM - New photo gallerie
SPATIAL CONTINUUM
The new Phototheque of the Vatican Museums is located on the third level of the extension built for the Jubilee Year 2000, precisely in the area of the former Multifunctional Hall. Considering the specific environmental conditions of the space, three main functional areas have been identified, each assigned to a function—or a set of functions—compatible with the necessary quality and protection requirements. These conditions were assessed through a thorough analysis of visitor flow, microclimatic conditions, and the different degrees of separation and/or integration required by each environment. The balance between separation and integration of functions and spaces has been managed with seamless continuity, preserving the perceptual fluidity and dynamism that define this intervention. This was achieved through the use of solid surface partitions with smooth, curved lines, free of sharp edges, along with large vertical surfaces in fully transparent PMMA. The powerful technological infrastructure— the true circulatory and nervous system of the Phototheque—has been fully integrated into the architectural envelope and furnishing system, eliminating any perceived "technological noise" while ensuring the highest available standards in terms of advanced functionality, management, control, and comfort. |
